Patna (Bihar) [India], May 16 (ANI): Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha on Friday criticised Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, labeling him and the Leader of Opposition in Bihar as "symbols of anarchy" who disregard democracy and constitutional rules.
Sinha accused both leaders of attempting to garner votes through theatrical politics, particularly with the upcoming Assembly elections in Bihar, calling them "dramabaaz people."
"The Leader of Opposition of the country and the Leader of Opposition of Bihar both are both symbols of anarchy, neither do they believe in democracy nor do they follow the rules of the Constitution... In an attempt to become actors, they make fun of the Constitution... He will not watch the film anywhere in the whole country, he has to do vote politics here, it is the election season, that's why he has come... The people of the country, the people of Bihar, everyone understands that these are election dramabaaz people ...," he said.
This criticism comes after Rahul Gandhi's recent visit to Darbhanga, where he interacted with students and discussed issues such as caste census and reservation.
The LoP reached Ambedkar Hostel in Darbhanga on Thrusday to make a address despite being denied permission by Bihar Police which also led to a case against him by the district administration.
He emphasised the importance of social justice and criticised the government's policies, highlighting the need for a caste census, stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was forced to announce it due to public pressure.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Giriraj Singh also took a jibe at Gandhi, claiming he cannot tolerate that someone like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a backwards class leader and former tea vendor, holds the post of Prime Minister.
Responding to Gandhi's call for implementing reservation in private institutions, Union Minister Giriraj Singh said the Leader of Opposition should have questioned his father and grandmother---both former Prime Ministers of India on why they failed to introduce such measures during their time in power.
"Rahul Gandhi thinks that nobody can become the Prime Minister except him, or without the leadership of the Gandhi family. He can't tolerate that someone like Narendra Modi, the son of a backwards class, poor tea vendor, be the PM. That is why he is creating all this drama," Singh told ANI.
"He should have asked his father and grandmother why they didn't implement reservations. Shedding crocodile tears is not going to help him accomplish anything now," he added.
The Bihar Assembly elections are expected to be a multi-cornered contest with the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) and the BJP, facing off against the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) comprising the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), the INC, and other parties.
The performance of the NDA government in Bihar, particularly on issues such as development, law and order, and social welfare, will be a key factor influencing the outcome. The Mahagathbandhan will seek to unite opposition forces and offer a viable alternative to the NDA.
Moreover, Centre's announcement on April 30 to conduct a caste census has made poll-bound Bihar's politics interesting. Coming just six months before the Assembly election, the move will force all parties to recalibrate their strategies.
In the 2015 Bihar Legislative Assembly Elections, RJD emerged as a single largest party with 80 seats, followed by JD (U) with 71 seats and BJP with 53 seats.
The last assembly elections were held in October-November 2020. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has won simple majority in Bihar, winning 125 seats in a closely contested election that saw counting continue over 19 hours and wrapping up only in the early hours on Wednesday.
The BJP won 74 seats while the JD(U) secured 43 seats. The Mahagathbandhan including Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress, and Left parties managed to secure 110 seats in the state's 243-seat legislative assembly.
The Bihar Legislative Assembly election for all 243 constituencies is scheduled to be held in October or November this year. (ANI)
