Sophie Ecclestonedid not return after bowling just four balls in Match 27 of the Women's World Cup 2025 against New Zealand on Sunday, October 26. Ecclestone walked off the field with the team physio immediately after dismissing Brooke Halliday on the fourth ball of her spell.
England Cricket posted an update after the left-arm spinner left the field, stating that the move came as a precautionary measure, given the ongoing match against the White Ferns is a dead rubber as England have a semi-final against South Africa to focus on on Wednesday, October 29.
After landing awkwardly on her left shoulder in the field in the first over, Sophie Ecclestone experienced more discomfort while bowling and is now receiving treatment.

For the unversed, Ecclestone sprawled across the field and threw herself around twice in the very first over of the match, landing awkwardly on her knees and left shoulder. The 26-year-old was off the field after the first over was concluded. She returned to the field at the commencement of the 18th over.
She was introduced into the attack in the 23rd over but did not seem in the best of rhythms while running in and completing her follow-through. However, she still managed to dismiss Halliday for 4 off 14.
Sophia Dunkley replaced her and bowled a couple of dot balls to conclude the over. Dunkley eventually bowled 2.2 overs for 14 runs as New Zealand were bowled out for 168 in 38.2 overs. Linsey Smith (3/30 in 9.2 overs) was the pick of the lot from England. Georgia Plimmer (43 off 57) was the top-scorer for the Sophie Devine-led unit. Devine, who is playing her 159th and final ODI, could score only 23 off 35.
