Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Shailendra, the cab driver recently arrested for attacking the personal assistant (PA) of Cabinet Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, was assaulted inside Indore District Jail on Sunday by fellow inmates.
According to Alok Vajpayee, Deputy Superintendent of the District Jail, Shailendra—an undertrial—was attacked inside the barracks by another inmate, Hemant alias Bhola, a robbery accused.
Hemant was allegedly instigated by another inmate, Raja, a Musakhedi resident facing charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Jail authorities said the situation was swiftly brought under control by on-duty guards and other inmates who intervened. During questioning, Hemant admitted that the assault was carried out at Raja’s behest. Thankfully, Shailendra did not sustain serious injuries and his condition is stable.
Following the incident, jail officials moved Hemant and Raja to separate barracks to prevent further violence. Hemant, a resident of Chhoti Gwaltoli, was recently jailed on robbery charges, while Raja remains under trial for narcotics-related offences.
The incident follows Shailendra’s arrest in the Palasia police station area, where he allegedly assaulted Harish, Minister Vijayvargiya’s PA, after a dispute involving luggage placement. Harish was injured and hospitalised, while Shailendra was arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
