Mumbai: Following the report of 20 Covid-19 cases in the last week, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has intensified its preventive actions to prevent any possible increase. The municipal authority has reassured residents that there is no need for alarm, as measures are established to guarantee prompt detection and efficient reaction.
The Maharashtra government has become vigilant after several Covid patients were detected in Mumbai and Thane, prompting the preparation of a Covid ward for these patients at Thane Civil Hospital. Nurses are observed getting a ward ready at Thane Civil Hospital.
Officials report that a total of 87 tests have been carried out, which include 85 RT-PCR tests and two Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs). Four positive cases were found on Wednesday, and an additional one was reported on Thursday, bringing the weekly total to 20. Officials confirmed that three of these patients have already recovered.
The Thane Municipal Corporation reported five new Covid-19 cases, raising the total to 108. Currently, 16 patients are hospitalized, with 13 in private care and three at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital. Meanwhile, 32 patients are in stable home isolation. Authorities emphasize that most infections are mild and urge calm.
Rapid Antigen Tests are fast diagnostic instruments that identify specific viral proteins, providing results in 15 to 30 minutes. Although not as sensitive as RT-PCR tests, they are effective for large-scale screening and provide quick results.
Municipal Commissioner Kailas Shinde held a meeting with health officials to improve readiness. All healthcare personnel are vigilant with designated responsibilities for collaborative actions.
Shinde highlighted the need to boost RT-PCR and Rapid Antigen testing while guaranteeing an adequate stock of medicines, PPE, surgical supplies, oxygen, and hospital beds. Each civic hospital in Vashi, Airoli, and Nerul has been designated five beds. He encouraged residents to remain composed and alert, uphold cleanliness, and pursue medical assistance if displaying symptoms.
