Fernando Alonso launched into an extraordinary rant at Lewis Hamilton seconds after crossing the finish line at the Singapore Grand Prix. The Spaniard was eighth in his Aston Martin but is likely to inherit seventh place from the seven-time Formula 1 champion who finished less than a second ahead.
That is because Hamilton spent the last two laps fighting hard to keep his Ferrari on the road after he suffered a brakes failure. He was a long way ahead of Alonso before that problem struck and, after cutting several corners because he could not slow enough, he did cross the finish line marginally ahead of the Aston Martin.
But he is unlikely to keep that place with the stewards investigating his many track limits violations. Even though he would have been aware that the FIA would look into the matter, Alonso could not contain his fury as he vented over the radio at the end of the race.
"F***ing hell mate, I cannot believe it," he yelled to his race engineer, before repeating himself several times in a furious X-rated rant. "I cannot f***ing believe it. I cannot f***ing believe it. I mean, I cannot f***ing believe it. I cannot f***ing believe it.
"Is it safe to drive with no brakes? It should be f***ing P7, you cannot drive like you are alone on track. No respect for the red flag yesterday, today free track for them. Maybe too much."
When informed by his team that Hamilton had picked up several strikes for track limits violations, Alonso pointed out straight away that it should mean a post-race punishment for the Ferrari driver. "Five seconds minimum, yeah?" he replied.

He went on to suggest Hamilton should have been ordered to stop before finishing the race, adding: "For me, you cannot drive when the car is unsafe, you know? Sometimes they tried to disqualify me with no mirror, and now you have no brakes and everything is fine? I doubt it."
