Brit tourist, 18, fighting for life after falling from third-floor Ibiza apartment

A British tourist is in a critical condition in hospital after falling from the third floor of a .

The 18-year-old was man found unconscious on the pavement with severe injuries and police from the third floor of the property above the street, although this is yet to be confirmed. Paramedics managed to stabilise him on the street and transferred him to the Can Misses Hospital where he was admitted at around midnight with head trauma and several serous injuries. Local police are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the incident, which happened on Sunday evening.

The man was later transferred to the Son Espases Hospital in Mallorca by helicopter, where he remains admitted in the Intensive Care Unit. It is currently unknown if the teenager was on holiday in Ibiza or a resident and the Civil Guard is investigating.

A number of similar tragedies involving young tourists falling from hotel balconies have been reported in recent years in the area, including Scottish student who died after falling from the sixth floor of a hotel in the same area. The tragedy occurred around 3am at a seafront four-star adult-only hotel in the party resort of San Antonio called Hotel Vibra District.

Paramedics raced to the scene but could do nothing to save the female holidaymaker because of the extent of her injuries. A spokesman for the police said: “I can confirm a 19-year-old British tourist has died following a fall at a hotel in San Antonio in Ibiza.”

Last month people visiting Ibiza were warned an urgent about the dangers of jumping off balconies. The new alert ahead of the busy party season followed the death of a 19-year-old woman who fell from the fourth floor of a hotel in recently.

The exact circumstances are currently under investigation, but it is thought the tragedy is connected to 'balconing' - a highly dangerous trend that sees people leap into pools from their rooms. Thehad only just returned to her room after visiting another part of the island when she plummeted to her death.

Young British holidaymakers planning their getaways to Ibiza's world-famous nightclubs have been warned they risk a painful death if they try and copy the stunt.

One local government source said the practice "worries us a lot", while the Ministry of Tourism has pledged to bring "more responsible tourism" to the archipelago following a wave of party-related injuries and growing local oppoisition to tourists.

A set of byelaws recently introduced to Sant Antoni, Platja de Palma, S'Arenal de Lluchmajor and Magaluf put in place specific measures to try and stamp out balconing.
