Steve Parish reveals what Crystal Palace must do for Oliver Glasner amid Man Utd links

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has revealed that preliminary discussions have begun with Oliver Glasner regarding a fresh contract, though he acknowledged the Austrian boss harbours ambitions to secure additional silverware following recent speculation linking him with the Manchester United position. United have been strongly connected with finding a replacement for Ruben Amorim following another difficult start to the season.

The win against Sunderland before the international break eased some pressure on his position. This was accompanied midweek by Sir Jim Ratcliffe publicly declaring his desire to afford Amorim three years to demonstrate his capabilities.

Nevertheless, there remains uncertainty over whether this position is permanent, particularly should United fail to qualify for European competition next term. Should Amorim face the axe, Glasner has surfaced as amongst the leading contenders for the role.

The Austrian has made his mark at Selhurst Park after claiming the FA Cup last campaign and guiding Palace to a club-record 19-match undefeated streak that was only halted by Everton last weekend. Glasner's agreement with the Eagles runs until this season's conclusion and, thus far, no fresh deal has materialised.

When questioned by talkSPORT regarding his manager's future, Parish disclosed that negotiations are ongoing. "We've had some early conversations,"Parish explained.

"We would love to keep Oliver, we're building something." However, Parish did concede that Glasner is a manager with high aspirations, aiming for more trophies in his career after leading Palace to their first major silverware.

"I think for Oliver it's about the conditions being right," Parish added. "It's about everything being in a way that he enjoys his work and he finds the conditions favourable to achieve.

"Oliver wants to win things. He makes no secret of that, that's what he is in football for.

"So if we can align those interests then hopefully we can make something happen." When asked directly this week if he would be interested in taking the United job if it was offered to him, Glasner chose to dodge the question about his future.

"As I said, I try to keep it at bay, whether I'm successful or unsuccessful, partly for self-protection," he responded after receiving the Coach of the Year award at Austria's Sporthilfe Gala. "A few years ago, I got into the habit of living in the here and now and enjoying it.

"It's simply better when you don't lose 19 games than when you don't win 19. Then the atmosphere at the training ground in the morning is simply better; everything is easier.

"I'm no less ambitious, no less demanding, and just as annoyed when we lose, like now. Even if it was the first defeat in six months: I'm one of the worst losers in the world, and I'm still annoyed about it today."
