India cancelled the implementation of the Indus Water Treaty of 1960 after the Pahalgam attack. Pakistan is upset with this. Now it seems ready for further talks over India's objections.

Pakistan has come to its knees after India's blunt stand on the Indus Water Treaty. Pakistan has said that it is ready to discuss further with India on the terms of this treaty. Pakistan's Water Resources Minister has informed India that his country is ready to discuss those points of the 1960 treaty on which India has objections. For the first time, Pakistan has shown an attitude of reconsidering the terms of the Indus Water Treaty set in 1960.

According to media reports, after the Pahalgam attack, India had informed Pakistan that it was cancelling the implementation of the Indus Water Treaty. After this, for the last one month, Pakistan's desperation for water is clearly visible. It has become ready to consider the concerns and objections of the Indian government.

According to the Indian Express report, Pakistan's Water Resources Minister Syed Ali Murtaza is believed to have taken this step after receiving formal information from India. Sources say that Murtaza has said that there is no way out of the treaty, but his country can consider India's objections.

Earlier, India had also given notice in January 2023 and September 2024 to discuss its objections to the treaty. But Pakistan did not show any interest in it. When India decided to cancel this treaty immediately after the Pahalgam attack, Pakistan's attitude has now softened. This is being considered a big victory for India.

Pakistan gets water from Indus, Jhelum and Chenab under the Indus Water Treaty. Whereas India gets water from Beas, Ravi and Sutlej. India gets only 20 percent water from Indus and its other rivers. Whereas Pakistan takes more than 80 percent benefit.

India has expressed its intention to make proper use of the water of Indus and its tributaries. For this, dams and reservoirs can be constructed. Pakistan has already raised objections to many proposals of India to build dams. It says that this will change the status quo.

India has informed the neighbouring country about its new stand on the Indus Water Treaty in a letter written on April 24. PM Modi himself has made it clear in his address that water and blood cannot flow together.
