Having a fridge that's well stocked with eggs is a life saver when you don't want to spend ages slaving over a stove to cook a meal.
Eggs are ideal in these situations as they can be dished up in a variety of different ways, they're satisfyingly tasty, and they're quick to prepare, so you can't really go wrong. While you can team eggs up with other ingredients like bacon or sausages, or an array of veggies in a tasty omelette, there is a very simple way to enhance their flavour without having to rely on other accompaniments - and all you need is a bit of mayonnaise.
According to food experts, adding mayonnaise to eggs helps to create a deliciously fluffy and silky texture, while the overall taste will be much richer and creamier. This is a great way to enhance a plate of scrambled eggs, which can be a bit bland on their own, or to give an omelette an extra kick of flavour.
The oil and egg in the mayonnaise adds fat which makes eggs taste slightly richer, while the added moisture and acidity helps the eggs cook into a lighter, fluffier consistency, rather than turning dense or rubbery.
Additionally, as mayonnaise is already seasoned with salt it's an easy way to add some seasoning to eggs and make them more flavourful.
Experts at All Recipes said: "Mayonnaise is actually made out of eggs (and oil and lemon juice or vinegar), so it's not that weird of an ingredient to add to eggs - you're just mixing egg with egg.
"Mayonnaise is an emulsion made by whipping the egg yolk with oil and lemon juice or vinegar. As you whip, the oil and lemon or vinegar is being suspended into the tiny water droplets from the yolk. The lecithin protein from the yolk helps bind the two together to form a new airy structure that won't separate.
"A similar reaction occurs when you mix the mayo with the beaten eggs. The mayo helps to stabilise the mixture and incorporate more egg into the eggs, making them fluffy. Plus, the extra fat can also make them silkier, and more rich."
To add mayo to eggs, experts recommend adding around one teaspoon of mayonnaise to two eggs, but you can adjust this amount based on your preference.
Some cooking experts also advise adding in a teaspoon of water to help create a fluffier texture and prevent the eggs from drying out and turning rubbery.
Experts at Simply Recipes added: "As the eggs cook, the water turns to steam, helping to create a fluffier texture. While balancing the richness of the mayo, the water also slows down cooking just enough to keep the eggs from drying out.
"Adding mayo gives your scramble an extra boost of richness and creaminess - without any extra butter or cream."
