Meghalaya bikers rally to honour armed forces

Shillong: In a tribute to the armed forces, simultaneous bike rallies thundered through Shillong and Tura on Monday. Organised by the offices of the deputy commissioners of East Khasi Hills and West Garo Hills districts, in collaboration with local bikers' groups, the event honoured the sacrifices and unwavering dedication of India's soldiers.

Leading the initiative in Shillong, deputy commissioner RM Kurbah emphasised the rally's significance in recognising the soldiers' relentless service. Additional deputy commissioner Shanborlang Warjri flagged off the ride at Golflinks, which concluded on the State Central Library premises.

Addressing the bikers, DC Kurbah expressed solidarity with the soldiers engaged in the conflict with Pakistan. She referenced the Pahalgam massacre, highlighting India's determination in combating terrorism.

"The peace and security we enjoy are a direct result of the sacrifices made by our armed forces," Kurbah said. "The nation stands united in gratitude. Their sleepless nights ensure we sleep peacefully."

She reaffirmed the govt's support for soldiers, saying, "No matter where they are deployed, they are never alone. We, the people of India, stand together with them in solidarity."

A parallel event unfolded in Tura, where the West Garo Hills district administration, in collaboration with the riders of Garo Hills, hosted a ‘Solidarity Ride' to salute the courage and dedication of India's soldiers.

Deputy commissioner Vibhor Agarwal, who flagged off the rally, said, "This ride is a small token of appreciation for the bravery and sacrifices made by our armed forces. Let us also commit to being responsible riders and citizens."
