JAMMU : Vaishno Devi temple in J&K’s Reasi district will be closed to devotees for three days from Sunday (October 5-7) following the forecast of heavy rain in several areas of Jammu and south Kashmir .
The closure comes less than a month after the shrine reopened following a 22-day shutdown since Aug 26 when 34 people, mostly pilgrims, died in a rain-triggered landslide.
This time, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board , which manages the temple, announced the closure on Saturday.
“Yatra Update: In view of the inclement weather advisory…Vaishno Devi yatra shall remain suspended from 5th to 7th Oct 2025 & will resume on 08/10/2025,” the board said in a post on X.
After the landslide near Adh Kunwari on the shrine route in late August, the pilgrimage had resumed on September 17. Since then, over 1.70 lakh pilgrims have offered prayers at the shrine, most of them during the recent Navratri season.
