The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) carried out drone strikes in southern Lebanon on Saturday, killing a Hezbollah operative involved in rebuilding the group’s military infrastructure, the army confirmed.

According to the IDF, the strike targeted areas near the towns of Qalaouiyah and Khirbet Selm. An engineering vehicle used by Hezbollah to restore its capabilities in Blida was also hit in a separate strike, as reported by Times of Israel.

In a post on X, the IDF wrote, "Yesterday, the IDF struck and eliminated, in the Kfarchouba area in southern Lebanon, a terrorist in the Hezbollah terror organization, who was involved in attempts to rehabilitate the organization's military infrastructure in southern Lebanon."

The Israeli army accused Hezbollah of continuing to endanger civilians while attempting to restore its terror infrastructure.

"The Hezbollah terror organization continues in attempts to rehabilitate terror infrastructure throughout Lebanon, while endangering Lebanese civilians and using them as human shields," the IDF wrote.

The strikes come amid ongoing tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border and violations of the November 2024 ceasefire, according to the IDF.

Meanwhile, in Gaza, Palestinian officials reported that around 500,000 people have returned to northern areas, largely in ruins, following the withdrawal of Israeli troops.

The first phase of the ceasefire between Gaza and Israel, brokered by US President Donald Trump , has already been implemented with the release of hostages by Hamas.

Under the agreement announced on Thursday, Hamas has until 12:00 local time on Monday to release the remaining 48 hostages, 20 of whom are presumed to be alive.

Egypt will host a summit on Monday to finalise the ceasefire and hostage release deal. More than 20 world leaders, including Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron , and UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, are expected to attend. President Trump is also scheduled to visit Israel before travelling to Egypt for the summit.
